Mr Amer Khan

Consultant Orthopaedic & Trauma Knee Surgeon

Mr Khan graduated from King’s College London in Medicine, alongside a 1st Class BSc in Sports and Exercise Physiology. He is trained in arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery, has been awarded travelling fellowships and has trained in Exeter, Guys & St Thomas’ Hospitals, France, Belgium, Sweden and the USA.

He previously served as Clinical Lead for Trauma & Orthopaedics and Sports & Exercise Medicine at Homerton University Hospital and was part of the Knee Team supporting athletes during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. He also contributed to the development of the Homerton Sports Injury Service. He was an Orthopaedic Advisor to the Health & Social Sciences Services in 2023 for the Namibian Government.

Mr Khan treats elite athletes, particularly athletes for all forms of martial arts and has expertise in biological joint preservation surgery and joint preservation alternatives to arthroplasty. He performed the first arthroscopic meniscal transplant in North East London and Essex. He is the Team GB Doctor for the Global Martial Arts Council.

He teaches worldwide in arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery, is a pioneer in arthroscopic scaffold for cartilage defects and in ligament surgery.

Mr Matay Arsan

Consultant Orthopaedic & Trauma Hand, Wrist and Elbow Surgeon (Upper Limb)

Mr Arsan trained in the Netherlands and Germany, with early sporting involvement in martial arts (Jiu-Jitsu, Taekwondo, Shorinji Kempo) and competitive football to near-professional level.

He completed medical training in Amsterdam, followed by Trauma & Orthopaedic training in Germany and advanced subspecialty hand surgery training at Hand Zentrum Lingen, a leading centre for complex upper limb reconstruction.

Mr Arsan has held consultant posts since 2012 and is currently Lead Hand & Wrist Surgeon at Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. His practice includes complex trauma, sports injuries, and both operative and non-operative upper limb management.

He routinely uses modern techniques including WALANT (Wide Awake Local Anaesthesia No Tourniquet) and minimally invasive approaches, working closely with specialist hand therapy teams to optimise functional recovery and return to activity.

Dr Irfan Ahmed

Consultant in Musculoskeletal, Sport and Exercise Medicine

Dr Irfan Ahmed is a Consultant in Musculoskeletal, Sport and Exercise Medicine. He studied at the University of Cambridge, where he also competed in amateur boxing and earned a full blue sporting award.
He has an active academic profile, with publications and presentations at national and international conferences. He is the lead author of the MSK Playbook education series in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, which was the journal’s most-read blog series in 2024.
Dr Ahmed’s work has been recognised with several awards, including the International Clinical Scholar Award from the American College of Sports Medicine (2021), the Basem Travelling Fellowship at Aspetar Hospital in Doha (2023), and an invitation to speak at the International Olympic Committee Conference on Prevention of Injury and Illness in Sport (2024).
He is also first author of a Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine (UK) position statement published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine on mouthguards and prevention of facial injuries in sport. In addition, he has published research on whether mouthguards affect performance (VO₂max) and previously worked as a ringside physician in amateur boxing.

Prof. Siôn Glyn-Jones

Consultant Orthopaedic & Trauma Hip Surgeon

Siôn is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Oxford. He is also a Consultant at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.
He trained in Cambridge, London and Oxford. He specialises in hip arthroscopy (keyhole surgery of the hip) and hip replacement in the more active individual. Siôn leads the Oxford Hip Preservation and Young Adult Hip Units. He leads the hip research at Oxford University, with a team dedicated to the prevention and treatment of hip osteoarthritis. Sion treats elite athletes from many sports, including rowing, soccer, cricket and tennis.
He is also a former National Lead for the National Institute of Health Research and sits on the several other international panels. He is a member for several international specialist societies and teaches worldwide in the field of hip arthroscopy and hip replacement.
Prof. Glyn-Jones specialises in keyhole surgery of the hip and less invasive total hip replacement.

Mr Syed Aftab

Adult & Paediatric Spinal Orthopaedic Surgery

Mr Aftab is a Consultant Spinal Orthopaedic Surgeon at Barts Health NHS Trust, based at the Royal London Hospital. He studied medicine at the Universities of Cambridge and Edinburgh, completed higher surgical training in Orthopaedics and Spinal Surgery in London, and earned an MSc in Trauma and Orthopaedics from University College London.
He undertook advanced spinal surgery fellowships at the Royal London Hospital and has further developed his expertise through visits to leading international spinal centres in Belgium, France, Germany, and the USA.

Mr Aftab pioneered the iMAS minimally invasive spinal surgery technique in the UK and was the first surgeon in the UK to perform robotic-assisted spinal surgery. His NHS practice was also the first in the country to offer robotic spinal surgery routinely.

A strong advocate of multidisciplinary care, he has held leadership roles including Clinical Lead for Spinal Surgery and Clinical Effectiveness Lead for Orthopaedics at Barts Health. He is actively involved in teaching, research, and service development.

An Honorary Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London, he leads postgraduate teaching in spinal trauma and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, presenting his work at national and international conferences.

Mr Matthew Solan

Consultant Foot & Ankle Surgeon

Mr Matthew Solan is programme director for orthopaedic surgery training throughout Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Alongside this, he is a visiting professor at London South Bank University and visiting lecturer at Surrey University – and he also runs instructional courses on key-hole ankle surgery for sports injuries.

He has special expertise in the painful big toe and is part of the international team pioneering Cartiva surgery. He has also pioneered the use of minimally invasive muscle release surgery and shock wave therapy for chronic heel pain.

Mr Matthew Solan (FRCS (Tr&Orth)), graduated from St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School, in 1992; and completed his general surgical training in London, Guildford and Oxford. He undertook his specialist orthopaedic training in the south Thames (west) region.

Mr. John Yeh

Consultant Neurosurgeon and Spinal Surgeon

Mr. Yeh studied medicine at the University of Cambridge. He completed his clinical training in U.K. and holds a postgraduate doctorate degree in spine biomechanics. Mr. Yeh has been a full-time consultant in U.K. since 2003 and was a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Queen Mary University of London and a Consultant Neurosurgeon and Spinal Surgeon at the St. Bartholomew’s and The Royal London Hospitals, London, from 2003 to 2013. Throughout the period, he was the Lead for Complex Spine Surgery as well as being the Head of Neurosurgery Department for two years. Mr. Yeh has an extensive experience in adult spinal surgery.

Sensei Irfan Ansari

Karate Instruction & Coaching

Sensei Ansari is an 8th Dan Black Belt, National Coach, and Chief Instructor of The DOJO Karate Centre. With over 54 years of martial arts experience and more than 38 years of coaching, he is one of the UK’s most experienced karate instructors.

A multiple World Champion, he has won 12 World Championship medals (5 Gold, 5 Silver, 2 Bronze). As a coach, his students have achieved an outstanding 974 World Championship medals.

Sensei Ansari holds a First Class BSc (Hons) in Sports & Exercise Science, a PGCE, and NVQ Assessor qualifications. He is also a Coach for the GB Martial Arts Team, Chief Referee and Rules Arbitrator, and maintains current DBS and First Aid certifications.

Combining extensive martial arts expertise with a strong background in sports science, he specialises in developing performance, technical excellence, and effective learning pathways for students of all levels. He is also a published author on martial arts and sports performance and has developed a comprehensive home-learning programme to support training beyond the dojo.

Dr Naomi Deakin

Honorary Clinical Fellow & Resident Doctor Department of Neurosurgery

Dr Deakin is a postdoctoral Associate in Clinical Neurosciences whose research focuses on traumatic brain injury, sports concussion, and spinal injury. She currently supports the international delivery of the POLYFIX-DCM surgical randomised controlled trial. After completing medical training at Cambridge and the Academic Foundation Programme in Edinburgh, she undertook a PhD investigating the assessment of mild traumatic brain injury and concussion in sport. Dr Deakin is a registered medical doctor with extensive experience in sports medicine and concussion research, and co-founded the Cambridge Sports Concussion Clinic. Her research centres on developing objective approaches to concussion diagnosis and informing safe return-to-play decisions across sporting settings, with work spanning both elite and community athletes.

Sports Scientist

Dr. Emek Can is a Sports Scientist, Personal Trainer, and the Founder of Can Performance and NeoDo Academy. He specialises in delivering science-backed, data-driven coaching, performance analysis, and athletic conditioning programmes for individuals of all ages and abilities.

 

Working regularly with elite athletes and competitive performers, Dr. Can focuses on injury prevention, evidence-based performance enhancement, and the development of highly personalised training programmes designed to maximise results and long-term athletic development.

 

Drawing on his unique experience as a former national-level athlete for Turkey, alongside his extensive work as a coach and sports scientist, Dr. Can brings a comprehensive understanding of performance from every perspective. This combination of practical and academic expertise enables him to identify potential, optimise performance, and support athletes in reaching their full potential.

Mr Graham Tytherleigh-Strong

Consultant Orthopaedic & Trauma Knee Surgeon

Mr Tytherleigh-Strong is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, and an Honorary Clinical Fellow at the University of Cambridge. He specialises in shoulder, elbow and sports surgery, with particular expertise in the management of shoulder instability, rotator cuff injuries, and complex sports-related shoulder disorders.

 

He has extensive experience treating athletes at all levels and has a strong academic interest in advancing the surgical management of sports injuries. His research focuses on shoulder instability, arthroscopic surgery, biologic treatments, and outcomes following shoulder reconstruction.

 

He has published widely in the orthopaedic literature and is a regular invited speaker at national and international scientific meetings.

Mr. Khalid Ghufoor

Consultant ENT, Head & Neck Surgeon

Mr Khalid Ghufoor is a Consultant ENT and Head & Neck Surgeon at St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London Hospitals, with specialist expertise in the diagnosis and management of injuries and conditions affecting the nose, throat, airway, and head and neck. He completed his specialist training through the North Thames ENT Training Programme and is currently Lead Clinician and Head of the ENT and Head & Neck Surgery Department at St Bartholomew’s Hospital.

 

He is experienced in the assessment and treatment of nasal injuries, airway and breathing problems, facial trauma, voice disorders, and other ENT conditions that can affect performance, training, and recovery. He is recognised for his expertise in advanced minimally invasive and transoral laser surgery, enabling effective treatment with faster recovery where appropriate.

 

Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Ghufoor is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London, ENT Training Programme Director for North Thames, and a Clinical Tutor at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Jordan Thomas

Athlete & Coach Profile

Jordan Thomas is one of Britain’s most decorated martial artists. A former World and European Karate Champion, he made history in 2016 by becoming the first British fighter in 12 years to win a World Karate Championship title. He later joined the GB Taekwondo Olympic programme, competing at the highest level throughout the Tokyo and Paris Olympic cycles.

With over 13 years of experience in elite international sport, Jordan has represented Team GB and competed worldwide across Karate, Taekwondo, and professional full-contact combat sports. Today, he competes professionally under Total Kombat while also serving as Head Coach of the Oaklands Wolves Karate Academy.

Drawing on his unique cross-disciplinary experience, Jordan combines world-class technical expertise with a modern approach to athlete development. He has produced multiple national champions and continues to support athletes from grassroots level through to international competition.

Justin Ortiz

Athlete & Coach Profile

Justin has more than 25 years of martial arts experience and over 20 years of competitive experience. He holds black belts in multiple disciplines, including 5th-degree Shotokan, 2nd- degree Goju-Ryu, 3rd-degree Tae Kwon Do, and 1st-degree Chuck Norris System (UFAF).

 

A lifelong competitor, Justin became a USA national champion in forms and fighting by 2007 and a WAKO World Champion in point fighting and kickboxing in 2008, representing Team USA in Naples, Italy. He has competed on elite teams including MASMAL, Full Circle, and Team Paul Mitchell, and has earned more than 30 world titles across organizations such as WAKO, NASKA, WKA, WKU, ISKA, and IOKO.

 

Beyond competition, Justin has successfully operated martial arts schools, developed world champions, and mentored instructors, business owners, and athletes. He is also a life coach, speaker, and entrepreneur dedicated to helping others grow through martial arts.

 

Expanding his career into entertainment, Justin has worked as a stunt performer, fight coordinator, and stunt coordinator on productions including Ozark, Cobra Kai, Power Rangers, Black Adam, Blue Beetle, and Superman and recently moved into Pro-wrestling as “The OXP” (Ortiz Experience). He is the co-founder and co-owner of Wreck Hard Productions and Martial Smart. He was recently appointed Director of Global Partnerships & Athlete Opportunities for the US Martial Arts Team.

Jewelianna is a world champion martial artist, stunt performer, actress, and instructor with more than two decades of experience in martial arts.

She began training at the age of three and started competing at eight, going on to earn multiple world titles while establishing herself as a respected competitor, coach, and seminar instructor. She holds multiple black belts and has trained across a variety of martial arts including: Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and Kung Fu, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Judo, Muay Thai, Boxing, and Kickboxing, Hapkido, and Kali.

 

After years of competing and teaching internationally, Jewelianna transitioned into the film and television industry, where her martial arts expertise and athletic background have contributed to major productions including Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ms. Marvel, Blue Beetle, Red One, True Lies, Wolf Pack, Cobra Kai, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Her work spans stunt performance, stunt doubling, acting, and action choreography, bringing authentic martial arts movement to the screen.

 

Jewelianna remains active in both the entertainment and martial arts communities through performance, instruction, seminars, and mentorship. Her unique combination of world-class competitive experience and professional stunt work provides valuable insight into the application of martial arts in sport, personal development, and the entertainment industry.
